Maverick Dance Experience is producing a dance show called “The T: Dance, Watch, Reflect.” This is an original project we are constructing to give New York dance artists a safe space to perform works and get constructive feedback from the audience, so that artists can use the feedback to inform their choreography. At our event, dance artists can network, perform, and learn how the audience perceived their work. We want every artist to create their best work and give us healthy competition, which is why we need an event like “The T: Dance, Watch, Reflect.”
Donations will go towards material costs, production costs, studio rental, and dancer fees to pay to put on a show. By giving to our project you are supporting the arts in America and making a difference. We graciously accept donations of all sizes, so please share a bit of your love to “The T: Dance, Watch, Reflect” and Maverick Dance Experience.
“The evening ends with a trio of fierce by Marcus Lavan Braggs, Mia Orozco and Princess Mecca Romero, choreographed by Toni Renee Johnson, titled Discovery Zone: the evolution. Propulsive, minimalist music by Hot Shit for Dance uses glorbles, slups and other reversed sounds in a muffled and slapped soundtrack of funky depth. It really is H.S.F.D. The trio take turns moving between unisons of offertory/receiving hands and big partnerings and body bumps, with a subtheme of hands either extracting from or feeding mouths.”
“If You Knew Me…You Would Know, an excerpt presented by choreographer Toni Renee Johnson for her company Maverick Dance Experience, accomplished the goals outlined in her program notes. The work successfully explored the boundaries of relationships and created a voyeuristic environment for both the performers and audience. Johnson has a unique way of evolving the abstract narrative and we look forward to seeing more of her work.”
December 9th and 10th at Riverside Church was the premiere of Maverick Dance Experience at the NuDance festival. All the hard work and pure focus from Toni Renee and dancers produced a wonderful outcome, with a two show event. The energy of the company burst out on the stage, which gave the audience a raw invite to pure live art and performance. The piece “If You Knew Me…You Would Know…” took viewers through a journey of emotions, relationships, beauty, and connections between everyone dancing on stage. The lighting brought the piece to the next level, with sporadic changes, flashing lights, and beautiful fades. The audience were on the tip of their seats wondering what was going to happen next. The show was a great success, so look out for what Maverick Dance Experience is doing next.
